This past Wednesday, nine of our students were inducted into the St. Catherine of Siena chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. In order to be considered as a candidate for induction into NJHS, students must maintain a 3.75 or above GPA from the beginning of 6th grade, perform a minimum of ten or more service hours, submit a written letter to Mrs. Oskorep as to why they would be a good candidate, and to show that they exemplify the qualities of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. Congratulations to the following students on being selected for this honor and thank you to Mrs Oskorep for all of her dedication as the leader for this group.

NCEA Parent Newsletter (attached)
Attached to this Dialogue is the current edition of the NCEA newsletter for parents. This newsletter focuses on "The Upside of Digital Devices - Using Screen Time to Stop Summer Learning Loss." The article offer suggestions on ways parents and children can utilize screen time to continue learning all summer long in a way that is constructive and healthy. Please take a few moments to read through the newsletter for some great ideas on how to share quality time with your child this summer in a way that will keep them engaged in learning until they return to school in August. 
 
Last Day of Spartan Care
The last day for afternoon Spartan Care will be on Wednesday, May 29th.  Spartan Care will not be available on Thursday, May 30th when students are dismissed at 11:30 AM. Please make sure to have alternate plans in place if you child will need childcare on the last day of school. The morning session of Spartan Care will still be available on Thursday, May 30th. 
 
Yearbooks available for purchase
Yearbooks have been sent home with students who placed an order on Fee Day. If you missed ordering a yearbook on Fee Day but would still like to purchase one for your child, we have a limited number of yearbooks still available in the school office. The cost for each yearbook is $18.00. Please send payment to the office in an envelope marked "Yearbook" along with your child's name. If you have any questions, please contact the office. 
 
State Science Fair Recognition
Congratulations to Max Astacio, Mckenzie Everett, Taylor Gassman, Jason Jardiel, Taylor Petruczenko, and Dansel Urbano who attended the State Science Fair on May 3rd and 4th at Southern Illinois University. All of the students did an amazing job in the presentations of their projects and papers.  We would like to recognize Max Astacio and Taylor Gassman for receiving the Apple Dental Award for outstanding projects. St. Catherine's is proud of all of you and thank you for representing our school by your example and hard work!  
 
Singers needed for the Graduation Mass  
Mr. Bernhard is still looking for students in 4th - 7th grade who might be available to sing at the Graduation Mass on Thursday, May 23rd. If your son or daughter would like to sing during the Mass, please let the school office know by Monday, May 20th. Students will need to be at the church by 5:40 PM. Mass begins at 6:00 and should end by 7:00 - 7:15 PM. Siblings of graduates are welcome to participate.
 
Last Day for Hot Lunch
Thursday, May 23rd is the last day hot lunch will be served to students. Please make sure your child(ren) bring a lunch with them beginning Friday, May 24th through the end of the school year.  
 
Summer Reading Challenge
A representative from the Fox River Valley Library, located in East Dundee, visited St. Catherine’s students yesterday to speak with children in grades K-6 about the library's annual summer reading challenge. The theme this year is A Universe of Stories! Please see the attached flyer to find out more information about registration for this program. The program runs from June 3-July 28. Students who complete the challenge will earn a ticket for a pool party at Dolphin Cove on Sunday, August 4th.   
 
Vacation Bible School 2019 (registration form attached)
There is still time to register for Vacation Bible School's session of  "ROAR! Life is Wild, God is Good!"  VBS will take place June 10th-14th from  9:00 AM until noon. Students in grades PK 4 through 6th are encouraged to attend and join in the fun! Registration forms are attached to this Dialogue. Please complete and return to the Religious Education office as soon as possible.   
 
Used Uniform Sale on May 29th (sales form attached)
The school will host an end of the year uniform sale on Wednesday, May 29th. It will be held in the school lobby from 8:00 until 3:30 p.m. We are looking to sell uniform jumpers, skirts, spiritwear, and gently used sweatshirts. We will not be taking any boys or girls uniform pants or shirts for this sale. Uniforms should be dropped off by Tuesday, May 28th. Please make sure to clearly label each item with your name and the amount you are asking and complete the attached form to turn in with your items.
 
Field Day - May 29th
St. Catherine's School will be having it's annual Field Day for all students on Wednesday, May 29th for students in 1st - 7th grade. Students should wear the following colors to represent their class:
7th Grade - Green, 6th Grade - Royal Blue, 5th Grade - Red, 4th Grade - Purple, 3rd Grade - Yellow, 2nd Grade - Sky Blue/Teal, 1st Grade - Orange . If you need to purchase a new t-shirt to represent your class color, Hobby Lobby is selling Gildan Youth & Adult T-shirts for $2.79 each. PK classes and Kindergarten will have their own field day events on a different day. Please watch for more information in your teacher's weekly newsletter.
 
Chili's "Dine to Donate" during the month of May (vouchers attached)
St. Catherine's Home and School has partnered with Chili's Restaurants in West Dundee, Algonquin, and South Elgin to offer a month long "Dine to Donate" fundraiser. From May 1st - May 31st, Chili's will donate 15% of food sales back to our Home and School when you use one of the attached Chili vouchers. All proceeds from this month long event will go towards Home and School's school improvement projects, and other important items for our students! Offer is valid for Dine In or To Go orders. Please share the extra vouchers attached to this dialogue with friends and family. Thank you!
 
** UPDATED** 2019-2020 School Calendar (attachment)
The 2019-2020 School Calendar is now available and is attached to this Dialogue. It is also available on our St. Catherine's homepage at www.st-cath.net under the "Our School" link at the top of the page. Please print out a copy for your records. A recent update was made to reflect our PK3 students' Picture Day will now take place on Friday, September 13, instead of Tuesday, October 22, as was previously posted. 
 
Variety Show on May 29th
Thank you to all the students who came out to audition for this year's Variety Show! We have so many great acts that will be part of the show this year! The show will take place on Wednesday, May 29th at 1:00 pm. Please mark your calendars for this fun event! If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Johnson at johnsonmp@st-cath.net. Looking forward to a great show!
 
Bus service for the 2019-2020 school year (Registration form attached)
Friday, May 24th will be the last day bus service will be available for our students for this school year. Please make sure to have alternate transportation arrangements for your child(ren) beginning Monday, May 28th.
 
D300 will continue to provide afternoon bus service for our students for the 2019-2020 school year. If your child is currently riding the bus or if you are interested in bus service for next year, please complete the attached bus form and return it to school by Friday, May 17th. In order for students to be eligible for bus service, they must live within certain D300 school boundaries. If you have questions about eligibility for the bus based on where you live, please contact the school office and we will verify with D300 if service is available to you.
 
End of Year Band Concert for St. Catherine Students
St. Catherine's students who participate in our band program, will be performing at the Wing Park Band Shelter in Elgin on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:00 PM for their end of year concert, "Where Dreams Come True". Please come out to support our students, along with several other local schools, as they share their talents, hard work, and music!
 
TRIP cards make wonderful graduation gifts!
With Memorial Day and graduation parties right around the corner, now is a great time to take advantage of our TRIP program to earn money towards your tuition bill. Families can purchase gift cards for use with many local vendors such as Jewel, Woodman's, Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, AMC, Meijer, Panera, Starbucks, etc. and many other stores all which give a rebate percentage back to you.
 
Create your own online TRIP account by signing up at https://www.shopwithscrip.com/ and place an order for next week to start earning money towards your tuition. The code to create an account is 2CL3966D181. Our last order for the school year will be placed on Monday, May 20th. Please have your TRIP order payment in the school office by 9:00 AM on Monday, May 20th if you have placed an order. If you have any questions about the program, please contact the school office.
