Family Fun Night & Trunk or Treat Tonight!
St. Catherine's Home and School Association is proud to host our annual Family Fun Night tonight, Friday, October 19th from 6:30-8:30 pm. We invite all students and school staff to join us for a great time with family and friends. There will be plenty of fun activities and games for families to participate in. Costumes are encouraged to add to the festivities! If you did not have a chance to turn in your RSVP, you are still welcome to attend. The suggested donation of $10.00 for a family of four can be paid at the door. If you signed up to do a car for Trunk or Treating, please park in the West parking lot by the front of school. All other cars should be parked in the East lot at the back of the school. Feel free to bring a flashlight to help navigate the Trunk or Treating. In case of bad weather, Trunk or Treating will move downstairs to the lunchroom. For more information, please see the attached flyer. Looking forward to a fun and exciting night!  
RED RIBBON WEEK October 22- 26
Next week we will be recognizing Red Ribbon Week. The emphasis of the week will be on making drug free and healthy choices. Students will be tying red ribbons around the trees that are on the border of our campus to show that we are a drug free school. Students will also have a crazy sock day to "Sock it to Drugs/Unhealthy Choices" on Friday, October 26th.
Halloween Classroom Parties and Parade
Halloween classroom parties will take place for students on Wednesday, October 31st. Students in PK3 and PK4 will begin their parties at 10:00 AM. Kindergarten - 8th grade parties will begin at 2:00 pm. Students in grades PK3 - 5th grade may wear costumes. Please remember that costumes should be in good taste, not gory, and no weapons will be allowed. Any object that is considered to be a weapon will be kept in the office until the end of the school day. Students in grades 6th - 8th may dress down day on Halloween.The younger students will be parading in the back parking lot after the pledge and prayer (approximately 8:35). Parents  are welcome to park in the front lot and walk around the outside of the building to see the students in the back lot. If it is inclement  weather, the students will parade in the gym.  
Please note that there is no School Mass on the Wednesday, October 31st. We will be going to Mass at 8:45 AM on Thursday, November 1st to celebrate All Saints Day.
ButterBraids are Back!
Don't have time to make breakfast on the holiday? Having guests and need an easy treat? Help support the 8th Grade field trip to Washingon D.C. by purchasing a ButterBraid! For the low cost of $14.00 you can bring the taste of the bakery home! Delivery will be on Saturday, November 17th, just in time for the holidays. ButterBraid flavors include apple, raspberry, cinnamon, double chocolate, strawberry cream cheese, cherry, cream cheese, blueberry cream cheese, and four cheese and herb. Please contact one of our 8th grade families to place an order. If you don't know an 8th grade family but would like to place an order, please contact Leslie DeWitt at dewitt2it5@gmail.com or at 847-917-1308. 
Tracking Service Hours
As the 1st Quarter comes to an end next week, we would like to remind families to record any service hours you may have completed on the "Track Service Hours" link found under quick links on your Schoolspeak homepage. All families are expected to complete 20 service hours to the school by May, 2019. Single parent families and families who have children only in PK3 and PK4 are expected to complete 10 service hours. There are many opportunities to earn hours through Athletics, Home and School events, and lunchroom volunteering. If you have any questions regarding your service hours, please contact the school office. 
Show your Spartan Colors!
St. Catherine's Athletic program is now offering spirit wear for sale! Please click on the following link to place your order for these great spirit wear items https://stores.inksoft.com/scspirit/shop/home. A portion of every sale will go towards purchases for our athletic program. The first order will be placed on Monday, October 29th so get your orders in soon! Spirit wear orders will be delivered to school in early November. 
Box Tops for Education Contest Winners
Congratulations to Kindergarten and 4th grade who tied for 1st place in our first classroom box top competition of the year! Both classes will receive a special reward for turning in the most box tops.  Keep up the great work collecting the box tops! We will be having another classroom competition in a few months. 
Golf Outing Wrap-up
Thank you to everyone that participated in the inaugural golf outing at Randall Oaks last weekend. A special thank you to the businesses and families that sponsored holes, including Crystal Lake Brewing, Elle Salon, Emergency Care Consultants, Epic One Insurance, and Dennis and Karen Riley, grandparents of Brayden and Elle Gesing. Thanks also to Ed and Rhonda Bartosik for organizing additional games that earned the school $500! With your support, we hope to make this an annual event that really puts the "FUN" in fundrais er.

Individual Picture Retakes and Team Picture Day - Tuesday, October 23rd
Our individual picture retake day is schedule for Tuesday, October 23rd. Any students who were absent on picture day or who need to have their picture retaken will be able to do so on that day. Students will need to return the pictures they have already received in order to have their picture retaken.
Sports Portraits will also be here taking team and group pictures. The following sports and groups will have their pictures taken: Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball, Band, NJHS, Student Council, and Spirit Squad. Envelopes for team and group pictures were sent home with students today and will need to be returned to school with payment on picture day October 23rd. The cost for each picture is $10.00 and checks should be made payable to Sports Portraits. Students should come to school dressed in their team uniform and bring their school uniform to change into after pictures have been taken. Pictures will be taken in the following order: Spirit Squad, Cross Country, Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball, NJHS, Student Council, and then Band. Cross Country uniforms will be collected after the picture has been taken. 
7th and 8th Grade School Dance - Flyer attached
St. Catherine's Knights of Columbus will host a dance at St. Catherine's for all St. Catherine students in 7th and 8th grade on Friday, October 26th from 7:00 - 10:00 pm. The cost is $5.00 and there will be light refreshments and beverages available for purchase. Other schools attending the event are St. Mary's - Elgin, St. Laurence, St. Thomas More, St. Joseph, and St. Charles Borromeo. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Student Council Events
St. Catherine of Siena Student Council is sponsoring two events this month. The first is Mismatch Monday Dress Down Day on Monday, October 22 . It will be $1 to participate, and all money raised will go toward future student council activities. Students can wear colors, patterns, and styles that don’t match, but please remember to follow dress down day guidelines in the handbook. Student Council representatives will be around to collect money each morning next week, starting on Monday, October 15th.

The second event is the annual coat drive. We will be collecting gently used coats, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves. These items will be donated to FISH. Students can begin bringing in items on October 22, and the drive runs through November 2. Items can be sent to school with your child and student council members will collect the items from the classrooms. Thank you for supporting Student Council!

November Lunch Orders
The site is now open for ordering November lunches. Beginning in November, our Monday lunch option will be Subway sandwiches. Proceeds from Monday's lunch will help fund our Athletic program. Please check out the new options being offered. November lunches can be ordered through Friday, October 26th. Please make sure to place your order soon as we are not able to add on orders once the link has closed.
ST. CATHERINE'S TRIVIA NIGHT IS BACK - Registration form and FAQ flyer attached
Home and School is still accepting table registrations for Trivia Night on Saturday, November 3rd. The theme for the night will be the 80's ! (Don't worry - not all the questions will be '80s themed.) There will be silent auction items, raffles, appetizers, and a table decorating contest. So, start thinking of your table decorations and line your babysitter up! Registration forms are due back on Monday, October 29th. Tables fill up quickly, so grab some friends and family, reserve a table, and join us for this incredibly fun annual event! For more information about this event please see the attached flyer.

Did you know that our TRIP program offers cards with rebates of 10% or more that can be applied towards your tuition? You will need the school code "2CL3966D181" in order to link your account to St. Catherine's so that you will start receiving credit on your tuition for orders. Our next order will be placed on Monday, October 22nd. Please have your payment into the school office by 9:00 am or pay online with your presto pay account. Save the Date for St. Catherine's Craft and Vendor Fair
St. Catherine of Siena School is once again hosting their annual Craft and Vendor Fair on Sunday, November 18th from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm. The fair is a great way to get some early Christmas shopping done. There are still a few spots left if you would like to reserve a table to sell items.
