Sacrament of 1st Reconciliation
 
Congratulations to all of our second graders who made their First Reconciliation last night. Thank you, Mrs. Schmidt, for your guidance and instruction in helping to prepare these children to receive this sacrament. Please continue to keep these children in your prayers as they begin their preparation for the sacrament of First Communion. These blessed and special children are:

Catholic Schools Week January 28th - February 2nd
Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.
 
Catholic Schools Week is almost upon us! This year's theme is Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. Each day of the week, beginning Sunday, January 28 , we will be celebrating different areas of Catholic School life. Sunday we will celebrate our parish. Monday we will celebrate our community. Tuesday we will celebrate our students. Wednesday we will have Grandparents Day and celebrate our nation. Thursday we will celebrate vocations. On Friday we will celebrate our faculty, staff, and volunteers. Please see a detailed schedule of events attached to this week's Dialogue.
We are looking forward to a faith-filled fun week!
 
 
Registration for the 2018 - 2019 School Year is now open
 
Registration for current school families for the 2018 - 2019 school year is now open! Please login to your Schoolspeak account and click on the tab "Register for 2018-2019". In order to ensure your child's spot for next year, please complete the online registration process by Wednesday, February 28th. The non-refundable registration fee is $100.00 per family if paid on or before February 28th. After February 28th, the registration fee will be $175.00 per family. Tuition must be current before your child's registration will be accepted for next year. If you have questions about your current statement, please contact the school office to set up an appointment with Miss Cannon. 
 
Please make sure to complete your registration by February 28th to confirm your child's placement for next year. We are not able to reserve a spot for your child if the registration has not been turned in. If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact the school office. 
 
 
2nd Quarter Reports Cards
2nd Quarter reportcardsfor your child have been published and are available for viewing through your Schoolspeak account. Please make sure to electronically sign off on the card after viewing it. 2nd Quarter Honor Roll and Artist Spotlight Awards will be given to students on Wednesday, January 31st following the 8:45 AM School Mass.
 
 
Tax Information for 2017
Statements reflecting tuition payments from January 1, 2017 - December 31, 2017 were emailed to "Invoiced Parents" last week. Please make sure to print out a copy of this statement for your records. If you did not receive this statement, please contact the school office and a copy will be sent to you.

Super Bowl Squares - Table Decorating Contest

Super Bowl Squares are selling out fast! Purchase your squares before they are gone! Squares can be purchased in the school office beginning Tuesday, January 16th. The cost for each square is $20.00. If you are interested in purchasing one or more squares, please stop by or call the school office. Squares are sold on a first come basis.
 
We are also in need of extra volunteers to help set up tables on Friday afternoon, sell raffle tickets between rounds the night of the event, and help clean up at the end of the night. If you are available for even a small amount of time in any of these areas, please contact Melissa Nosal at melnosal@gmail.com. Any time given to help out is greatly appreciated!
 
 
School Absences and Illnesses
With the return to school and the flu season upon us, we just wanted to share a few quick reminders if your child is sick or has missed a day of school.
  • If your child will be absent from school, please call or email the school office by 9:00 AM on the day of the absence.
  • If your child is sent home from school with a fever, he/she must be fever free for 24 hours without being on fever reducing medication before they are allowed to return to school.
  • Please notify the school office if your child has been diagnosed with a case of Strep throat.
  • Students exhibiting stomach flu symptoms should be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Please encourage your child to wash their hands frequently, sneeze and/or cough into their elbow.
  • Students must bring a note with them when returning to school explaining why they were absent.
 
Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest on Saturday January 27th - flyers attached
The Knights of Columbus will be hosting their annual Free Throw Contest on Saturday, January 27th from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the school gym. Boys and girls ages 9 - 14 are invited to participate in this event. Please see the attached flyers for more information and to register for the event.
 
 
Science Fair Judges Needed - Friday, February 9th
Mrs. Rossi is looking for some volunteers to act as Science Fair judges on Friday, Feb 9th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the school gym. No experience necessary! Please contact Mrs. Rossi at rossim@st-cath.net if you think you can help out. Thank you!
 
 
Cub Scout Pack 3 Pinewood Derby Invite - Flyer attached  
St. Catherine's Pack 3 Cub Scouts would like to invite anyone interested in joining the Cub Scouts or anyone who has every wanted to race a Pinewood Derby car (girls included), to join them on Sunday, February 11th for a Derby Car and Pizza event. The cost to participate in $5.00 and RSVP's are needed and should be sent to Tom Wilmot at Tom@WilmotCS.com by Firday, February 9th. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
 
 
Valentine's Day Order Forms
NJHS is sponsoring a fundraiser for F.I.S.H. Food Pantry and to defer the costs of the Birthday Boxes project for F.I.S.H. that are being made during Catholic Schools Week. They are selling valentines for 25¢ each or five for $1. Order forms were sent home with each student today. This as a great way to remember a special someone, friend, Mass Buddy, teacher, school secretary, or principal.
 
Please return the order forms marked to the attention of Mrs. Oskorep/ NJHS no later than Friday, February 9th . Valentines will be dispersed during Valentine’s Day parties and used to decorate student lockers and classroom doors of recipients.
 
Milk Payments for 2nd Semester
Milk payments for 2nd Semester are now due. Please look for reminder notices to come home with your child next week if we have only received payment for the 1st semester. If your child did not order milk last semester but would like to receive milk for the remainder of the year, please send a check in the the amount of $35.00 made payable to St. Catherine's to the school office.
 
Christmas Cards Wanted
As you are putting away the Christmas decorations and tiding up from the holidays, please remember to save your used Christmas cards. We use discarded Christmas cards for lots of different art projects. Please send the cards to school marked to the attention of Art Dept/Mrs. Oskorep. Thank you and Happy New Year!!!
 
Pictures needed for our School Yearbook!
This is a plea for your help!!!!! I am working on the 2017-18 yearbook and I am in desperate need of pictures from you. Any photos of classroom parties, school events, and sporting events are needed to fill the pages of our upcoming yearbook. I would greatly appreciate any contributions. Photos can be submitted via email if you have a few that you want to share. If you have a larger number of photos to share, then you could also send them to school copied to a flash drive or CD and mark them to the attention Mrs. Oskorep. I will be prompt in copying the images and returning the materials to you. (If you wish to send actual photos, then I can scan them and return the photos to you.) PLEASE submit your images as soon as possible.
 
Birthday Boxes for FISH Food Pantry - Flyer attached
Catholic Schools Week will be January 28th thru February 2nd. The theme this year is “Catholic Schools - Learn, Serve, Lead, Succeed.” NJHS is sponsoring a school wide service project to create birthday bags for the F.I.S.H. food pantry. Students will be making birthday cards and decorating the birthday bags during art classes. The birthday bags will be filled and delivered the following week. Each grade has been assigned a special part for this project. If everyone participates we hope to be able to make some birthdays a little more special for people that visit the food pantry. Please see the attached flyer to see what your child is being asked to donate for this project. NJHS will be collecting the requested items from the classrooms and assembling the birthday bags during Catholic Schools Week. Please send these items to school as soon as possible. Thank you!
 
Invest in Kids Scholarship Information - Student verification flyer attached
A letter from the Diocese of Rockford was sent out to all school families before Christmas Break regarding the Invest in Kids Scholarship Program. The information can also be found on your Schoolspeak account homepage. Families interested in applying for this program can do so beginning January 31st. Parents will need to complete the attached "Student Enrollment Verification Form" and return it to the school office for Miss Cannon to sign. The form will be returned to parents with the oldest child in the family. Daddy Daughter Date Night
Saddle up, put on your dancing shoes and mosey on over for a hootin', hollerin' good time at the annual Daddy Daughter Dance to be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Invitations have been sent home with the oldest child in each family. Please make sure to check your daughter's backpack. RSVP's are due back by January 19th.
 
Grandparents and Special Friends' Day - Wednesday, January 31st - Flyer attached
Students are encouraged to invite their grandparents or a special person in their life to celebrate mass with us on Wednesday, January 31st. This will give the children a chance to showcase their school day with someone who may not have been here before. However, if a grandparent or other special friend is unavailable to attend, a parent is welcome to attend but may be asked to volunteer as a special person for other classmates who may not have a special person visiting that day.
 
This event is very well attended so reservations are required. Please see the attached flyer for the timeline for the day and to RSVP for this event. If you are interested in helping with check in or serving refreshments, please contact Susan Holland.
 
Mother/Son Date Night at the Main Event
Date Change: The mother and son event has been moved to Sunday March 4 . This exciting event will take place at The Main Event, 2575 Pratum Ave, Hoffman Estates , from 5-8 pm. Wristbands will be available for mothers and sons for $20.95 each. The wristbands include unlimited bowling, laser tag, ropes course, billiards, shuffle board, a 4 hour gaming card, 2 slices of pizza and a medium drink. Watch for sign up flyers in your child's folder.
 
TRIP (Tuition Reduction Incentive Program)
Will you be shopping for Valentine's Day soon? Shop with Scrip offers several options to plan for that special day! Surprise your special someone with gift cards for their favorite stores or restaurants. 1-800-Flowers also is part of the scrip program and offers a rebate of 12%. Our next TRIP order will be placed on Monday, January 29th but you can always order Scripnow cards and reload current cards anytime.
 
To set up a new account go to https://www.shopwithscrip.com/ and click on the green "Get Started" tab at the top of the page. Enter in the school code "2CL3966D181" and start shopping! If you have any questions about the TRIP program, please contact the school office.
